Dorsetshyre With the Shyre-Towne Dorchester Described, as Also the Armes of Such Noble Families as Have Bene Honored with the Titles There of Since the Normans Conquest to this Present Anno 1662.
[London: Roger Rea, 1662.]
Engraving with later colour. 390 x 510mm
John Speed's famous map of Dorset, with inset plan of Dorchester, decorated with armorials. Roger Rea's issue of the Speed maps is uncommon: there is evidence that despite the engraved date of 1662 the edition was not completed until 1665. Then, according to an advert for the Bassett & Chiswell edition of 1676, all the unsold sheets were burned in the Great Fire of London in 1666.
