A publication by which Paul Sandby's landscapes were rendered popular was The Copper Plate Magazine issued at a shilling a plate. It appeared monthly in oblong quarto, from October 1, 1774 to January, 1781, extending to some 150 plates. 108 of these were collected into a volume in 1778 and published by G. Kearsly as the Virtuosi's Museum, containing Select Views in England, Scotland, and Ireland, drawn by P. Sandby, R.A.; the whole series was republished as A Collection of 150 Select Views in England, Scotland, and Ireland, drawn by P. Sandby, Esq., R.A., first issued by Kearsly, and afterwards by Boydell, in 1781.
